Subduction

-Occurs when an oceanic plate collides with a continental plate.

-The oceanic plate is forced under the continental plate, creating subduction.

Divergent Boundaries

-Two oceanic plates are moving away from each other.

-Forms the Mid-Ocean Ridge.

-New crust is formed between the spreading of the plates by cooling magma that has erupted from the fault.

-This process is known as Sea Floor Spreading.

Continental Collision

-Two continental plates collide and force the crust to wrinkle upward and create mountains.

-The Himalayas are actually still growing because the Indian and Eurasian plates are colliding with each other.

 Sliding/ Lateral/ Transform/ Conservative Boundaries

-Two or more plates slide past each other.

-Pressure will build up until a certain point where the two plates will finally shift possibly 10 feet, causing an earthquake.

-An example of this would be the San Andreas Fault in California.
